Education ≠ Learning (draft)

In the first session of Issue in Education, Professor CHENG Kai-ming gave his lecture on "Education versus Learning?" The central question is: Does Education faciliate genuine learning? He gave several examples to answer the question. One of them is Hole in the Wall (鑿壁上網).

In simple words, Hole in the Waill is that: a computer was put into a walled hole. Children were let to use the computer freely. Without prior experience and formal teaching, they could learn how to use the computer by "try and error".

Hole in the Wall is inspiring to me. It confirms my thinking again: Students can learn by themselves especially by doing. Teachers' responsibility is no longer to teach but to facilitate students properly. Teachers should create a learning environment for self-learning of students in their real life rather than confining students to the classroom only.
